About Me, and about An Autistic Insight

I’m Ryan. I’m a 22 year old Autistic Adult from Northern Ireland. I was diagnosed with Autism when I was 13 years old. In this blog, I want to talk about my experiences, and how we can improve services and support for the thousands of Autistic adults living in Northern Ireland, who in the majority of cases receive no support at all from the health service. I am determined to help change this, as I feel it is no longer acceptable for people’s lives to be thrown away because there are no support services available.

I started An Autistic insight because I believe that the voice of Autistic people has an important part to play in the discussion around Autism, in all aspects. From raising awareness of Autism, to designing support services, and ensuring that Autistic people are fairly represented in all areas of life. We believe that the Autistic community deserve a seat at the table when discussions about us are had. The age-old phrase of “nothing about us, without us” is particularly true when it comes to Autism. It is my firm belief that the Autistic community have a central role to play when it comes to how we support Autistic people, both children and adults. I believe that Autistic people can play a crucial role when it comes to decision making, as we have experience that no medical professional, no teacher, no non-autistic parent, can have. We can bring An Autistic Insight into all areas of life.
